Once in the valley of Bransdale the road does a circular loop connecting all the properties. There is a turning at the head of the valley which takes you to the church.

Decided we needed some fresh air today so headed 20 miles up onto the North York Moors above Helmsley to walk around Bilsdale. We pakred at Newgate bank and headed up through the forest onto Helmsley Moor following the grouse track rather than the footpath to keep a bit drier.
Technically the ride borrows a bit of the North Yorkshire Moors now with a loop up and down Bransdale to its twin peaks on either side of a tiny village called Cockayne. This part of the ride is beautiful and remote the nearest village to Cockayne is Chop Gate three miles away over the moors

Thankfully some of the vegetation had been cut as well and so not too many nettle stings and bramble scratches. This is a fantastic 30km route with some great natural singletrack and amaing views across to the North York Moors. The waymarking is not too bad but the paths can be very muddy when it is wet so best done after a dry spell.
